New Polypipe MVHR Range: Superior Performance with Simple Installation & Operation

Saturday 12th October 2013

Polypipe Ventilation has launched the Silavent Green Line HRX range of Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR) appliances, incorporating advanced technology for maximum performance and innovative design for simple installation and operation.

Manufactured in the UK, the new 2010 Building Regulations compliant and SAP Q listed appliances recover up to 88% of a home’s waste heat. The units work by warming fresh air drawn into the building using the heat from waste stale air extracted from the kitchen and up to seven wet rooms using an efficient counter flow heat exchanger.

Building on Polypipe’s experience and success in this field, the HRX range features sophisticated technology, generating very low specific fan powers for reduced energy usage whilst at the same time providing exceptionally quiet, reliable operation and delivering a higher SAP rating. Further design innovations include a wiring centre external to the unit to prevent moisture from damaging the electronics, an optional frost protection system to prevent ice damage and a moulded EPP casing to minimise air leakage and provide improved thermal efficiency and noise absorption.

Polypipe has designed the new units with the installer in mind. In addition to the remote wiring centre, which also takes away the need for the installer to open up the appliance upon installation, all units in the HRX range are ‘ambidextrous’ so that the units can be fitted to the left or right of the property regardless of the location of the external walls. This also avoids the need for complex ‘cross over’ duct runs which can be an issue in buildings with limited space. The units themselves are compact and lightweight and will readily fit in standard kitchen cupboards as well as lofts.

A range of added value options are available with the HRX appliances, including a summer bypass facility which ensures properties do not overheat during the warmer months. Understanding that the majority of heat recovery units on the market lose up to 40% of their air flow performance when in summer bypass mode, Polypipe has engineered the HRX summer bypass mechanism to operate in both chambers, providing improved summer cooling in the process. A condensate drainage kit is also available to remove any build-up of moisture.

Another key industry concern addressed by Polypipe with the new HRX range is end user operation. Whilst new homes usually come with a detailed appliance information pack, this information rarely makes it through to subsequent buyers. As a result, many new home owners don’t even know they have a heat recovery system, let alone know how to operate it. Polypipe has therefore mounted user instructions directly onto the unit and made the user interface simple to understand and operate.

Neil Tilsley, Managing Director of Polypipe Ventilation, comments on the launch of the new Silavent Green Line HRX MVHR appliances: “MVHR is now widely recognised as being effective in recovering waste energy, thereby reducing heating costs and energy usage, as well as helping to prevent condensation and improve overall indoor air quality. Importantly this only applies if the units are functioning correctly through correct design, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance. A recent report from the Zero Carbon Hub Ventilation and Indoor Air Quality Task Group identified a number of industry weaknesses in these areas and Polypipe’s new HRX MVHR range has been carefully engineered to directly address these issues, making these some of the most effective units in the market today.”

The Silavent Green Line HRX range has been designed to work most efficiently when used with Polypipe’s Domus ducting systems. Domus ducting offers improved system performance through the exacting tolerances and engineered fit of the system, whereby pressure drops are minimised and air leakage virtually eliminated.
