Polypipe Heat Recovery Systems Installed in Prestigious Berkeley Homes London Developments

Award winning Silavent Green Line HRX Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) and Domus Radial duct systems have been installed in to two new Berkeley Homes developments in North London.

‘Amberden Avenue’, located in the highly sought after N3 London postcode, features a range of contemporary quality homes. Down the road in Mill Hill, ‘St Joseph’s Gate’ is a gated collection of 49 highly distinctive new and refurbished apartments, set within the grounds of a magnificent Grade II listed building, surrounded by beautiful mature parkland.

Both developments feature a luxury specification, including many sustainable and energy saving features. Part of this specification includes sophisticated heat recovery systems to provide filtered, fresh and pre-warmed air to the properties’ living areas, using the heat recovered from waste stale air extracted from the kitchens and bathrooms.

To achieve this, the Silavent HRX range uses a highly efficient counter-flow heat exchanger, cleverly reducing the need for additional heating. It also prevents the build up of condensation and mould, whilst improving indoor air quality by providing continuous balanced ventilation. Manufactured in the UK, the highly efficient unit offers a very low Specific Fan Power, down to 0.58 W/(l/s) and helps reduce Dwelling Emission Rates (DER) to secure additional SAP points as calculated in the Product Characteristics Database (previously known as SAP Appendix Q).

Compact in size and light in weight (11.5kg), the HRX models have been fitted as standard, with the larger HRX2 units installed in the bigger apartments and houses.  The latter has the highest available heat exchange performance on the Performance Characteristics Database, helping to enable an even lower DER. They come with user instructions mounted directly onto the front of the unit, so residents can easily understand how to operate and maintain the system.

At both developments, the Silavent HRX units efficiently drive the fresh, filtered air around the properties through a Domus Radial semi-rigid duct system, which was chosen by Berkeley Homes for its system reliability and flexibility. Unlike traditional ducting systems, the Domus Radial duct system serves each room vent by singular or dual Ø75mm semi-rigid duct runs which connect directly to a central distribution system splitting the air from a slim-line, compact Radial manifold. Domus Radial has been specifically designed for use within whole house ventilation systems and whilst it is much easier to design and specify, its benefits also include less air leakage, increased air flow, easier installation and commissioning, as well as elimination of room to room cross talk and a reduction in air noise.

Silavent Green Line HRX and Domus Radial systems have a well deserved reputation for quality, supported by excellent technical support, from a market leading manufacturer and designer. Polypipe Ventilation is well placed to offer immediate, practical solutions to Building Regulations Parts F & L. The company continues to provide differentiated solutions in the private and social housing sectors, transforming the way developers, specifiers, installers, distributors and home owners meet emerging environmental standards.
