Large London Regeneration Scheme to Use Polypipe Heat Recovery System

Polypipe Ventilation’s HRX Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems are being installed into new properties in South Kilburn, London as part of a massive £700 million regeneration scheme.

The scheme will see 2400 new homes in South Kilburn, as well as a new transport infrastructure, school, health centre, sports facilities, offices and community spaces.

Construction company Denne, working in partnership with L&Q (one of London’s leading residential developers), is responsible for phase one of the project, building 286 new homes across two sites. Polypipe’s Silavent Green Line HRX MVHR appliances and Domus Supertube 204x60mm duct system will be installed by mechanical and electrical contractors Box and Charnock across the Carlton Vale site.

The site features 133 new homes across two blocks, from one and two bedroom apartments to three bed maisonettes. The Silavent Green Line HRX MVHR units are being installed into these properties’ airing cupboards. Once completed, the new dwellings will provide a mixture of private ownership and affordable shared ownership.

Silavent HRX MVHR appliances prevent the build up of condensation and mould and improve indoor air quality in today’s air tight homes by providing a constant supply of fresh and filtered air. In addition, the HRX appliances recover heat from waste stale air – as found in the kitchen or bathroom – using a highly efficient counter-flow heat exchanger to warm the incoming fresh air; thus reducing the need for extra heating and helping to reduce fuel bills.

The range also features the option of a 100% summer bypass system to help prevent overheating of the home during warmer periods, whilst still supplying fresh filtered air. Manufactured in the UK, the system is 2010 Building Regulations compliant and SAP Q listed.

Jason Benson, Managing Director at Box and Charnock, has been working with MVHR systems for some time, but this is the first development in which he has used the Polypipe HRX system: “We offer heat recovery as a value engineering proposal. With this particular contract we could see the Polypipe units offer a good energy saving over those originally specified. Whilst this was one of the first Polypipe MVHR installations Box and Charnock have done, it was a very straightforward installation.”

Polypipe Ventilation is at the forefront in delivering energy-efficient ventilation solutions and plays a vital role in helping customers to achieve the higher levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
