Kirton Lodge Farm uses Polypipe’s Landcoil to aid land water management
Polypipe’s Landcoil prevents waterlogging and improves crop yield.
When a local farm needed a land drainage solution to drain away excess surface water from farmland below sea level, Polypipe was able to provide its suitable Landcoil system.
Based on the Felixstowe peninsular close to the River Deben, Kirton, Lodge Farm is used for the production of crops including wheat and barley. Due to the location, the uneven land surface at the site meant some areas were below sea level and therefore became waterlogged during times of high rainfall, threatening crop yield.
To aid land drainage across the farm and to transport excess surface water back to the local watercourse, Polypipe supplied over 20km of Landcoil. Durable, light in weight and Kitemarked to BS4962, Landcoil has consistently proven itself in the management of excess surface water in areas where poor drainage affects ground quality. For Lodge Farm, periods of heavy rainfall resulted in waterlogging, which was detrimental to the crops growing onsite.
After carefully assessing the site, Les Cotton Contractors called upon Polypipe to develop a solution suitable for the site. Using a Trimble GPS system, individual water levels were measured in each dyke on sea level to determine the likely amount of rainfall in the area. Polypipe’s Landcoil was supplied in diameters 80mm and 160mm to aid the management of excess water in areas of poor drainage.
