Domus Solves Ducting Problem For The Heart Development

An O&H Properties development, The Heart features apartments with landscaped gardens, high end shops and restaurants which have transformed the town centre of Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.

Domus ventilation ducting was specified for the apartments at The Heart but, during the second phase of the project, a problem was encountered for which Polypipe provided a simple yet effective bespoke solution.

The problem – common in the building industry - was that air bricks had been installed in the outer skin of brickwork as it was being laid and the alignment did not match closely enough with the underside of each concrete floor where the ducting was to be mounted, causing a 15mm vertical offset.

As a UK based manufacturer, Polypipe was able to provide a quick, bespoke solution by adapting Domus’ existing Supertube 125 ducting into 200 fabricated ‘swan necks’. These proved ideal and two were fitted per apartment; one on the kitchen extractor and one on the bathroom.

In fact, this bespoke solution proved so popular that it led Polypipe to develop a new product - Universal Duct - which helps alleviate offsets, which are common in both new build and refurbishments.

In addition to the bespoke solution at The Heart, the Domus Supertube 125 flat channel ducting system was also installed with the appropriate fittings and outlets, along with Domus FireBrake. The latter provides LABC approved fire protection when ducting through compartment walls.
