Chalton Water Recycling Centre: Polypipe minimises disruption

Polypipe’s Ridgidrain drainage system helped a water recycling centre remain operational during a major installation.

Polypipe worked with international water and environmental engineering services company Stantec Treatment to provide a temporary drainage system to Chalton Water Recycling Centre in Luton, Bedfordshire.

The project was part of the site’s major redevelopment, which included the installation of Europe’s biggest sand filtration unit during April and May 2018. The plant, which is owned by Anglian Water, processes half of the town’s sewage. To keep the site operational during the upgrade, which saw 30 filters installed using cranes, Polypipe supplied its Ridgidrain as a temporary solution to allow water to be carried from the plant’s silos to a lagoon while work was carried out.

Polypipe’s flexibility and variety of pipe diameters and lengths made it a perfect choice.

28 lengths of Ridgidrain were specified in 900mm diameter. Made from up to 100% recycled, high-strength, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), Ridgidrain comes with integral sockets for easy pipe alignment and has a low friction inner wall for improved hydraulics. Ridgidrain is supplied in 6m lengths, reducing the number of joints and risk of leakage.
