Attenuation solution for major London rail project

London Bridge Station, one of the UK’s busiest railway stations, has benefited from a Polypipe attenuation solution as part of the Thameslink redevelopment programme.

Working closely with main contractor Costain and consultant Hyder WSP, Polypipe’s design and product support team created, delivered and oversaw the installation of a two-legged Ridgistorm-XL large diameter attenuation tank capable of storing 68m3 of water at London Bridge Station.

Located beneath the station’s car parking facility, the system comprises of Polypipe’s Ridgistorm-XL pipes and fittings in 1500mm diameters, along with a RidgistormCheck vortex flow controller within a 1500mm chamber to safely release water from the tank at a rate of no more than 70 litres per second.

Polypipe’s technical and product support teams worked closely with the end client to ensure that any necessary design changes were met for a quick and easy installation.

The team’s ability to retro fit and undertake alterations to the attenuation tank and chambers whilst in situ went a great way to ensuring a speedy and safe installation.

As well as offering a wide variety of systems and technical knowledge, Polypipe’s in-house manufacturing facility was able to produce a modularised design that included pipes in bespoke lengths, all of which could be delivered to site for installation to meet tight timescales.
