Our Energy Journey - Part I

Tuesday 6th October 2020

For a better tomorrow…

Here at Polypipe Building Products we recognise that our activities have an impact on the environment, both locally and nationally. Throughout our manufacturing sites a large amount of energy is used in a standard working day, so to ensure a sustainable future, these activities are managed to minimise the impact on the environment.

We work on a variety of activities using a framework of the Environmental standard ISO 14001 and are working towards the Energy standard ISO 50001 to help reduce our carbon footprint and to develop a more effective use of energy through reducing energy waste and improving current processes.

Working towards ISO 50001 is important to a business of our size as it focuses the business on using energy more efficiently. When a business is using enough energy to run 6,800 homes a year it is important that steps are taken not only for the company but for the environment also. Part of this journey was taken by switching to green energy.

We are using green energy as part of our process to reduce our carbon footprint whilst helping the environment. Green energy comes from natural sources such as sunlight, wind, rain, plants, tides and geothermal. These renewable energy sources are replenished naturally unlike fossil fuels which are rapidly diminishing.

Making green energy part of our foundation will help establish a more sustainable future, by taking responsibility for our energy management. This is not the only step taken to reduce our energy usage but a significant one for the future.

How much Green energy do Polypipe Building Products use compared to fossil fuels?

We have decided to move all our purchased Electricity to green energy. As of October 2020 100% of the purchased electricity will be from a green energy source.

Why has Polypipe chosen Green Energy?

We work very hard to reduce our carbon footprint and reducing fossil fuels within the business gives us a district advantage in increasing our green credentials.

What is the future in Polypipe for Green Energy?

Green energy is at the forefront of our future and we envisaged that 100% of the energy used will be from green sources going forward. We have also not ruled out self-generation projects like solar or wind.

Does Green Energy save us money?

Buying green energy from suppliers actually costs us more but shows a commitment from Polypipe Group to enhance it green credentials and make a more sustainable future for us at Polypipe Building Products.
