Weston Supermare Pier
An historic British landmark has been rebuilt with help from Polypipe Terrain. The company’s Terrain Soil and Waste range of plastic pipes and fittings have been used as part of a £51 million project to rebuild The Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare, which was destroyed by fire in 2008.
The solvent-weld Terrain system was chosen to create a new piping system which carries soil and waste underneath the new boardwalk, between the pier’s holding tank and the main seafront drains. Once the system was installed, there would be no easy access to it if any problems arose, so it was vital that a thoroughly proven and reliable system was chosen. Given the unusual location, the system’s ability to withstand the effects of the harsh marine environment over a long period was also crucial.
Polypipe Terrain made visits to the site to advise on the most effective system design for this unique application and ensure that the system will go on giving outstanding performance for many years to come.
