Rainstream Classroom

Providing creative, innovative ways of teaching people about the issues facing the world is essential to develop their own opinions and responses. Intended for use primarily at Key Stage 1 and 2, Rainstream Classroom offers support to schools and teachers, with planning ideas and activities, to help teach why water is a vital resource and the many ways in which water affects our lives.

Designed with creative teachers in mind, the overall aim of Rainstream Classroom is for it to be adapted and personalised to the setting in which it is used, to put the learning into context, and to promote thinking and problem solving skills.

Classroom Information and Activity Guide

Beginning by looking at how the world around us is changing, the guide moves on to illustrate how, where and when rainwater can be used to replace mains water. Complete with illustrations of how different rainwater harvesting systems work, the guide will help teachers and children understand how rainwater is collected, stored and re-used. The guide continues with a series of planning ideas to help understand how water fits into the world around them. With links to Geography, Numeracy, Literacy, ICT, Science, PSHE, Design & Technology the Rainstream Education Resource is an essential document for any modern classroom.

Online Content

To support the activities of the classroom information and activity guide, Rainstream Classroom includes access to an online library of teaching aids and information. Ranging from interactive maps and weather symbols to historical rainfall data and diary templates, there is something for every creative teacher to turn into hours of educational fun.

Play and Learn

It's fun to play! Children of all ages play, and from an early stage, play is important to a child's development. Play is not just physical, play allows children to express their need to explore and experiment, to understand why and how a particular action will produce an associated outcome. Play can be imaginative, creative and social, but it is also a tool to make learning fun. With this in mind, Polypipe brings learning to life with its Moving Water Activity Pack, featuring PAL.

Moving Water Activity Pack

Polypipe is pleased to introduce PAL, the newest addition to your school. PAL is packed with hours of learning fun in the form of Polypipe's Moving Water Activity Pack. Consisting of pipe fitting and strainer components, that are easily screwed together, the pack can be used to understand how water moves, how water can be stored and how water can be separated from solids.

The play and learning doesn't stop there, with a little imagination the components can be used to explore more than the behaviour of water. How do grains of rice flow through a pipe? Does the rice make a different noise?

The only limit to PAL is imagination! PAL is great fun for all ages, adults included, but please remember when playing with water or other liquids – you might get wet.

Rainstream Monitor*

Installing a Polypipe Rainstream Monitor* system encourages users to monitor the water usage in their building. Primarily intended for use with Rainstream Classroom to monitor water use within schools, children and teachers will have the opportunity to collect water usage data and understand how water is used in their school. Polypipe Rainstream Monitor* is available in various designs, including the option to customise (e.g. to match a school crest or company name) allowing organisations to demonstrate a proactive awareness of water use issues to staff and visitors.
