Terrain Drainage Technical Seminar, Hyatt Hotel, Muscat, Oman
Great interest was shown recently at the Terrain technical drainage seminar in Muscat, Oman, attended by representatives from the local Ministries, Consultants and Contractors.
The Polypipe Gulf team promoted both traditional and innovative approaches to the design and installation of drainage systems to protect the living environment from the health risks posed by poorly designed and inadequately ventilated above ground drainage systems.
The seminar entitled 'Basic Principles of Drainage' was relative to BS EN 12056 (pt 2) and local regulations/practices, and demonstrated the correct design and installation methods to ensure a good drainage system. It emphasised the importance of jointing techniques, highlighting that Terrain systems utilise a solvent-welded joint, that when installed correctly can also accommodate thermal movement effectively. The use of correct gradients was among the basic principles highlighted along with the importance of access within the pipework systems; much emphasis was placed on the need to ventilate the drainage system to protect the water trap seals.
Technical Manager for Polypipe Gulf Rod Green, explained 'Above ground drainage is required to convey waste water from the building, quickly and effectively; ultimately, protecting the water trap seals is the most important element of the design and installation. Should the loss of a trap seal occur, harmful foul smells could potentially enter the living environment.'
Rod adds that 'We are definitely taking the lead in the GCC region for educating the market in the principles of good drainage design and installation practices based on a high level of technical support together with a well engineered drainage system that offers unique and proven solutions for the built environment. The Terrain soil and waste solution represents the industry benchmark for quality that not only meets but, in most cases exceed the British Standard requirements to achieve our Kitemark Licence' says Rod.
