Polypipe puts the wheels in motion for high-profile infrastructure development backed by Rolls-Royce
Polypipe’s holistic approach to a large-scale development backed by Rolls-Royce meant that plastic solutions were selected over traditional materials.
Polypipe has delivered sewer, stormwater attenuation, and power protection systems for a high-profile site in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire.
Working closely with main contractor Galliford Try, Polypipe supplied a range of products to deliver the main sewer and drainage infrastructure across the 150-acre site owned by Rolls-Royce. Backed by scheme developer, Muse, the £250 million renovation will include a new road network, up to 900,000 square feet of employment space, a school, warehouses, and 900 new homes.
For the sewer system, Polypipe supplied 340m of 150mm Polysewer and 250m of 450-600mm Ridgisewer, which were installed for both surface water and foul sewers adoption by the local water company, under Section 104 and Section 106 agreements. Over 80 Ridgigullies were also installed to capture surface water. These were connected to Ridgidrain pipes to direct surface water to local natural watercourses. To complete the system, Connection Saddles were installed, connecting smaller Polysewer pipes to Ridgisewer, and Ridgidrain to Ridgistorm-XL.
To assist with surface water discharge on land assigned for homes, Polypipe supplied Polysewer and Ridgisewer structured wall sewer pipes and fittings, to work in conjunction with surface water drainage system, Ridgidrain. Ridigullies and Connection Saddles were then used to connect the drainage systems together.
Polypipe also delivered a stormwater attenuation solution for the Hucknall site using over 800m of Ridgistorm-XL in diameters ranging from 750-1050mm, providing a system that would meet the demands of the site’s differing ground conditions. Each section of pipe was engineered to a specific length that met the exact requirements of the project. The final system allows for high volumes of water to be discharged into local watercourses.
In addition to the stormwater attenuation infrastructure, Polypipe also supplied over 20km of their cable protection product Ridgiduct, to offer added protection to the power lines, the street lights, and the clean water systems.
Polypipe’s approach meant that groundworkers facilitating the development at Watnall Road could efficiently connect the new build homes and commercial units to pre-installed networks.
